Appalachian Trail Amateur Radio Net (ATARN)

The net is an amateur radio CW net. We meet on 7070 kHz daily at 7:00 PM Eastern time (Eastern Daylight time when in effect).

The purpose is to provide a meeting place for any hikers on the Appalachian Trail who are operating amateur radio on 40 meters. Any one is welcome!

We encourage hikers and non-hikers alike to check in to the net and say hello. Hikers may give their location and how far traveled. Non hikers can relay messages to the rest of the world.

This is a directed net when a net control op is available. Otherwise the net is "open".

The official sending speed is 10 words per minute.

HOW TO CHECK-IN TO THE ATN NET
The net control op will send CQ ATN DE his call QNI K. You respond with ONE letter from your call sign. Net control then answers with that letter. You then send TU (thank you) and YOUR CALL, QRU if you have no traffic (messages) or QTC if you have traffic, then K After Net Control takes check-ins, then the net control will call each station and invite the station to make comments.
